I have concluded my series on attending events and this has come up because recently a very special person, my mother has died. While it would be a whole lot easier to completely shelf my business, I have responsibilities and things that are important to do so this is shared on a very personal level here today.

What I have seen often is people having an either or philosophy. In other words, they believe they can only take care of one thing at the expense of another. One very common one is they have to take care of family and they don’t have time for a business. Or the other is they have to get business done and don’t have time for family.

Neither will seriously help you achieve your dreams! The biggest thing that must happen is a balance between the two! It is about prioritization. That takes some skill but one you absolutely must learn and apply!

What do I mean by Prioritization?

Prioritization is a fancy term for organizing your task list. And the things that must go on that list should be everything both business and personal. To prioritize means to put them in order of importance. Now today as I write this, it is early Monday morning, and I will be occupied all day with activities surrounding my mother’s funeral which is tomorrow. But I got up two extra hours early so that I could still send this content out and share with my many fans and friends even while I will not be here. That is how I prioritize this week. I will take early (sleep) time to do some business, and then my family time will be the rest.

Why Is Setting Priorities Important?

When in a home-basedbusiness it is very easy to be distracted by things around us, even the very family that we want to take care of. It is important to set times when we will do business and set times when we will take for our family or personal things. Setting priorities or deciding the importance of each item is essential for a person who is working from their home. The boundaries between work and home can be soft, but there still must be boundaries.

It is important to realize that there is going to be a fairly long time period of growth before the business is off the ground. It is going to take consistent and persistent attention to become successful. It has been my experience that many who have claimed to have a home-businessdon’t actually even have any hours of operation, they just go by when there isfree-timeif any. That is a formula for disaster! If you do not take your business seriously your family won’t either.

Good Things Take Time

If we realize that all good things take time then we need to see it that way and have a daily action plan that we initiate even with a list of priorities. And of course even as I am writing this today, there is going to be times when we have to adjust to the circumstances of life. Sometimes we have to work. And sometimes we have occasions when the personal life will take higher priority for a small period of time. The important thing to realize here is that that isn’t something we want to make a daily thing but only for very special circumstances. If we approach it with that attitude, we can consistently work towards our dreams.

And as I will say in the video below, we don’t want to make our families our excuse but we do want to make them our WHY
